KNOW YOUR HONEY- CHOOSE SHIFAA PURE HONEY

Updated: Apr 9

  1. What is Pure Honey?

Honey is classified to be pure when it is 100% honey from bees, without any adulteration or ingredients (such as corn syrup, sweeteners, oils or flavors) which are sometimes added to industrial honey to reduce costs. Pure Natural honey is taken straight from the beehive and filtered without any additives. While pasteurizing (heating) doesn't affect the purity of honey, it does reduce the nutritional benefits.

2. Where does Shifaa Pure Honey Come from?

Shifaa Pure honey is 100% natural African forest honey produced by bees who feed from the green Savannah vegetation nectar in Ghana. It is sourced from ecologically friendly beekeepers in Ghana, with hives situated in Savannah bushes and forest regions. Our beekeepers appreciate the importance of caring for bees to facilitate pollination and drive food security.

Our honey is 100% raw and packaged only after sieving, without being adulterated nor pasteurized.

3. Does Pure Honey Expire?

Pure Natural Honey DOES NOT EXPIRE. Pure Honey is a natural super-food that doesn’t spoil easily. However, if it is adulterated, contaminated or incorrectly stored, it can go bad. In rare occasions, it could go bad if bees collect nectar from certain toxic plants. The expiry date labelled on packaged honey is a regulatory requirement by global Food and Drug Agencies (FDA), to indicate commercial shelf life.

4. Can Pure Honey Crystallize/Solidify)?

YES, it is actually raw pure honey (unpasteurized) that has the ability to crystallize. This is because honey is a super-naturated solution of primarily two sugars: glucose and fructose. Most industrial honey manufacturers apply heat to the honey in order to slow down crystallization.

However, you can easily bring your honey back to its liquid state by standing it in a pot of heated water and the crystals will melt. But please, don’t microwave your honey! It may damage some of the nutritional properties. The funny bit is that adulterated honey is that which does not crystallize because it is FAKE.

5. Can Babies under 12 months be given honey?

It is recommended that infants under 12 months of age should not be given honey until they are over one (1) year old. This is because honey contains bacteria that are too strong for a baby’s intestines leading to stomach illness. Pediatricians recommend waiting until your baby is at least 12 months before introducing honey.

6. Where is the Best Place to Store Pure Honey?

Pure Natural Honey can best be stored in the pantry or kitchen shelf. Storing Pure honey in the fridge can often accelerate the process of crystallization.

7. Is Shifaa Pure Honey approved?

Shifaa Pure Honey is fully certified and approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana. Our honey is subjected to regular laboratory testing by the Food Research Institute of the Council and for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR - Ghana), to maintain premium quality.
